Ripple CEO Forecasts SEC's Struggle Against Ethereum: Regulatory Battles Heat Up

Published: 22.03.2024
In a recent social media update on the X platform, Ripple's CEO Brad Garlinghouse has boldly suggested that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) appears to be on the path to a setback in its ongoing conflict with Ethereum (ETH). Garlinghouse argues that the SEC's legal endeavors are faltering and lagging behind global regulatory standards. Recent reports have indicated an escalation in the SEC's efforts to categorize Ethereum as a security, coinciding with an intensified investigation into the Ethereum Foundation.

Paul Grewal, currently serving as Coinbase's chief legal officer, has recently criticized what he sees as "misinformation" surrounding Ethereum, emphasizing its crucial role in the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. Grewal has also highlighted discrepancies in the SEC's approach to regulating Ethereum. In line with these observations, Garlinghouse has acknowledged the SEC's growing friction with other regulatory bodies like the CFTC.

Adding to the complexity, a pair of United States senators have written to Gary Gensler, urging the SEC to refrain from approving additional cryptocurrency ETFs. Legal analysts speculate that these actions may be intended to appease cryptocurrency skeptics within the Washington establishment. Stuart Alderoty, Ripple's chief legal officer, has urged Congress to stop funding what he perceives as "irrationality."
