Rheinmetall Secures Contract to Supply Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles to Japan

Published: 08.04.2024
Rheinmetall has clinched a multi-million-dollar deal to supply Japan with autonomous unmanned ground vehicles. The German defense firm announced on Monday that it had secured the contract from the Japanese Ministry of Defense, although it did not reveal the specific value.

Rheinmetall stated that it would collaborate with Japan's Marubeni Aerospace, acting as the prime contractor, to deliver the unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). These UGVs, known as the Rheinmetall Mission Master SP, are slated for delivery early next year for testing purposes. Additionally, the contract encompasses ongoing support, a training regimen, and provisions for spare parts.

The versatility of these vehicles allows them to be towed or airdropped for missions in challenging terrain.
